Video of the week: This Must be the Place

Found this while doing some internet trolling. Arcade Fire covering my favorite Talking Heads song in Paris! Love the steel drums! Don't love the weird guy dancing like a zombie to the right. But still, pretty entertaining. Have you seen any interesting covers lately?

Video of the week: Gorillaz

This holiday season, we received gift certificates to Amoeba (thanks for the awesome gift, m & d!). We basically cleaned the place out a few weekends ago. Among many albums (including MC Hammer's "Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em"), we also purchased a few live music dvds. Our favorite was Grammy-nominated "Gorillaz Demon Days Live at the Manchester Opera House."

Take a look at one of their highlight performances, "Dirty Harry," featuring the Children's Choir from Parklands School and Newall Green School in Machester. Please note the short kid with the yellow hat in the front, saying no to the floor. Amazing!

Video of the week: Dock Ellis and the LSD No-No

An entertaining story to get your new year started right!

The late Dock Ellis, a pitcher for the Pirates, is famous for pitching a no-hitter in 1970 while under the influence of LSD. James Bladgen created this video for No Mas which retells the story in a hilarious way. The real Dock Ellis is narrating.

This just shows us that anyone can overcome hardship. Even when it means pitching in the major leagues after "getting confused" about your day off. Enjoy the new year everyone! And stay away from hallucinogens!

Video of the week: San Francisco (1905)

And we're back! You know how it goes with our crazy busy San Franciscan lives! Not like any of you loyal readers are expecting an explanation...

My dad sent me this amazing motion picture; looks to be taken from the F train in our very own San Francisco. It's driving down Market St. towards the famous Ferry Building. I think one of these huge buildings on the left is now an Urban Outfitters or Forever 21, which is really strange. Anyway, enjoy this piece of history with the perfect soundtrack. Thanks Dad!

Video of the week: Analog girl in a digital world

Listen up, folks. TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY! This means that I can do whatever I want, so here's my favorite music video by one of my favorite performers ever, who I happen to see every birthday. Try to pick out all the references to other musicians and albums!

Tell me slim, whatchu tryin' to do?

Video of the week: Let the Beat Build

I just read about Nyle, an NYU student/rapper in New York magazine. How inspiring to see some talented college kids take Lil Wayne's already great song and make it so much better.

So that's how you let the beat build.
